Puppy Training Tips
Acquiring a new puppy brings joy and happiness to you that can’t be expressed in words. There is just sheer pleasure and something very special in the way your puppy will look at you through his innocent puppy eyes that simply makes you go aww!
However, if you don’t take care of things, that adorableness can soon turn into frustration. The antics won’t be cute anymore and your puppy will really get on to your nerves. Puppies generally tend to chew everything they can find, poop wherever and where ever they feel like and completely ignore your commands and angry “NO”.
So what do you as a puppy owner? You should start with the traditional tried and tested puppy training guide so that you can train your puppy well and build a very healthy relationship that will last a lifetime.
Puppies like being praised and respond well to it. They are very social and keen on impressing you. This actually is the biggest hurdle for many pet owners overcome…. that positive reinforcement will reward you hundreds of times more than negative reinforcement. This is something all pet owners must always remember.
Giving your dog a pat on the head or giving him a treat will positively impact their training and behavior much more than constant yelling or worst a smack on your dog’s rear end.
The latter teaches your dog in a harsh way and this creates anxiety and imbibes fear in him. This leads to a number of problems. Whatever you train them to do, you have to adopt a positive attitude. This is the most important aspect of puppy training. Your puppy will continue being well behaved and good in a bid to earn more praise and treats from you.
Your dog has to feel safe and secure with you and have to be consistent too. If you are, they will learn quickly plus they will feel safe at home. This is also an important aspect because if your puppy feels secure, he will tend to behave much better. Also, he will trust you at every step and thus each dog training session will be extremely fruitful.
You also need to let your dog know that you are the leader of the pack. The sooner he realizes this, the better training will be. Now don’t get this wrong and think that it means you can grab your puppy and and miss treat them.
This means that you are the one who will feed him, take him out to poop, place him in his crate and train him. You can be the leader and establish this clearly without adopting the alpha dog methods or tactics.
Start your puppy training at the early as possible. If you don’t want him to get on to the couch, make sure he never gets on to the couch. It is very tempting to see him all cute and adorable on the couch when he is small but it can be confusing in the future. You need to decide on the rules then start obedience training right away.
Socialization is very important for your dog training and development. You can do this by making sure he is exposed to new environment, situations and people in the early stages of life. Your puppy will be better behaved later on and obey you even when you are in public.
Training your puppy requires that you show patience, consistency, planning and more importantly, a lot of love and praise. I will agreed that some dogs are easier to train and some days puppy training will be tough. But you have to stay strong and as your puppy grows into an adult you’ll be very happy that you stuck to the rules firmly and your devotion, energy and time will pay off.
